Effective May 11, 2023, the COVID-19 Paid Administrative Leave offered in accordance with Illinois Public Act 102-0697 is expected to end. After May 11, 2023, employees will need to use their own accrued sick leave or other appropriate paid or unpaid leave for time needed for COVID-19 reasons.
Under the Act, COVID-19 Paid Administrative Leave time is to be offered during any time when the Governor has declared a disaster due to a public health emergency pursuant to Section 7 of the Illinois Emergency Management Agency Act. The Governor has announced the state’s public health emergency will end on May 11, 2023.
Processing Changes and Instructions
- Earn code CO5 will be removed from timesheets effective pay period 2023 BW12/MN6 and will be available only for pay adjustments.
- ILCO leave code in PEALEAV will be retired in September 2023 (MN9/BW19) to permit reconciliation of leave balances.
- Coordinate with Worker’s Compensation: Employees that are diagnosed with or test positive for COVID, and who have reason to believe they were exposed in the workplace (e.g., had close contact with someone at work that was infected, or frequent close contact with the general public and there is no alternative explanation) must follow-up with Worker’s Compensation. Remember that Worker’s Compensation also needs to be coordinated with FMLA leave.
The COVID-19 Restored Sick Leave and Retroactive Paid Administrative Leave required by the Act for personal leave time taken for COVID-19 reasons prior to and during the 2021/2022 academic year will continue to be available.
