Hiring

Non-faculty job positions at UIC are categorized into several classifications based on job function and credentials.

The hiring process differs for each classification.

Academic Professional employees at UIC are important to the overall mission of the University. These positions can support a research or academic project and do not fall under Civil Service guidelines.  For more information, view Hiring Academic Professional.

Most UIC employees are in place under the Civil Service System. Employees under the Civil Service system are permanent employees whose positions may be hourly or exempt. For more information, view Hiring Civil Service.

The Human Resources Temporary Services Office approves and monitors the status of Extra Help appointments. An Extra Help position is defined as a position established for a period which is intermittent or emergent in nature, payment is on an hourly basis, and the work cannot be assigned either on a straight-time or on an overtime basis to status employees.  For more information, view Hiring Temporary Extra Help.

The “Return to Work” legislation (Public Act 97-0968; HB4996) is requiring changes to the information necessary for reviewing and approving retirees rehired to work at the University of Illinois. This legislation outlines work limitations and the financial impact to the employer regarding the re-employment of a SURS Retiree.  For more information, view Hiring UI Retiree or SURS Annuitant.

For faculty hiring, see UIC Faculty Affairs.

For student employment, see the UIC Student Employment Office.
