Non-faculty job positions at UIC are categorized into several classifications based on job function and credentials.
The hiring process differs for each classification.
Academic Professional employees at UIC are important to the overall mission of the University. These positions can support a research or academic project and do not fall under Civil Service guidelines. For more information, view Hiring Academic Professional.
Most UIC employees are in place under the Civil Service System. Employees under the Civil Service system are permanent employees whose positions may be hourly or exempt. For more information, view Hiring Civil Service.

An Extra Help position is defined as a position established for a period which is intermittent or emergent in nature, payment is on an hourly basis, and the work cannot be assigned either on a straight-time or on an overtime basis to status employees.
